2021

As the pandemic wore on, there continued to be a big disconnect between my peaceful little cabin life and the fear seeping in through my phone. I continued to draw crowded gardens. Gardens that continued to grow despite a darkness in the undergrowth; I thought of it as a relentless, suffocating kind of growth. Painting was my refuge, as was our little spot in the woods where we could pretend the outside world didn’t exist. Looking back, I’m surprised at how bright my color palette was in 2021! I suppose life felt very vibrant, real, and intense. There was relief and tiny returns to normalcy. By Fall, both of my children had returned to school and I had more time to paint.
