In early 2023 I panicked about my income and created another (!) “side business” selling printable wedding invitations on Etsy. On one hand, it felt like a failure to return to my “old” line of work; on the other hand, this was work I knew, and suddenly I was on a mission, digging through a decade of design files.

I was working on the Etsy shop 24/7 when I got the call that I’d been accepted to the Hillsborough Gallery of Art, a local artist owned co-op. They needed a group of framed paintings within the month, and scheduled me for a group show — my first time exhibiting since college. I happily put my side gigs are on hold to focus on painting and gallery shifts. Joining the co-op has given me a sense of purpose, camaraderie, and courage. I’m excited to see how this new chapter affects my work.
