Lost in the Weeds
This painting began with a photo of an “ugly” section of an overgrown garden. I loved the variety of plants in different stages of life, some with new, pale growth and others dried and brown. I added an artificial light leak to my photo and liked how it made the vegetation at the top of the photo appear more reddish, which further piqued my interest. After making the initial sketch on canvas, I merged some shapes and altered others, making the scene a little more surreal. I like to think of my paintings as the beginning scene in a fairy tale.
22×28” Original acrylic painting on canvas, framed in a float frame. Currently on view at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.
