Goldfinch in the Thistle
This spring, thistles were growing beside Bradshaw Quarry Road and each day I ogled them from the car on the way to school drop off. I love the curvy lines of the stems, the heavy blossoms, spiky leaves, and feathery flowers. Thistle is a sassy plant. In reality there were no goldfinch that day, but I learned that they like to eat the seeds and use thistle down in their nests, and they flit around the plants like acrobats.
24×36” Original acrylic painting on canvas, framed in a float frame. Currently on view at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.
