Storyline
I have been eager to make paintings that are more abstract and sculptural, whether that is an interesting frame that becomes part of the artwork, or painting directly on a shaped surface. This painting was done on a raised panel, with the papier mache frame built directly onto it and covered in layers of paint rubbed in by hand. I’ve been inspired by tramp art frames, paintings by Duncan Grant and Roger Fry of the Bloomsbury Group, and “mod” organic shapes. This is the beginning of an experiment. We’ll see what comes of it!
17×19.5” Original acrylic painting on canvas with artist made papier mache frame. Currently on view at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.
